hey writers,
welcome back!
i wanted to talk about how to overcome the challenges of branding and promoting yourself as a writer. as you know, it sometimes feels like its only so many ways to showcase our talents. if it’s not a book, a white background with text, or a short instagram video — what else is there?
don’t worry there are plenty of options.
first, i would suggest exploring the depths of social media by watching other writers and allowing yourself to be inspired by what you see.
a couple of my favorites that showcase their work in creative ways are:
taking a scroll through these profiles helped inspire me to think outside of the box and stop limiting myself to the normal way of sharing.
i always say “creativity is just new connections bred from inspiration”.
take the cover photo for this blog as an example. the photo was inspired by me seeing people create spoofs and i soon realized: “oh this has writing… why not make it fun and tie it into what i do?” now i am able to do the same thing in a variety of ways which spices up my craft and makes it fun all over again.
i will also say since you are a writer look at everything that has to do with words and see where you can implement it in a way that speaks to you. for example, i am an avid Spotify listener. so one time i created a playlist poem. or another time i used google. by spoofing the definition format and creating poems as definitions of English words.
let your mind explore all the possibilities!
and to my non-writers, who are creatives in their own way, i want you to take a moment and think about how can you showcase what you do in new, refreshing ways. seriously. stop reading and think.
as you come up with new ideas i want you keep track of them and act on them. someone once told me “ideas have a shelf life, check them out while you can”. with that said, i implore you to take advantage of what the universe has to offer.
i am looking forward to your new creations. feel free to tag me, send them to me, or use the #blusroom.
asé, asé.
